# Analytics

> Connect Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to track visitors, behavior, and conversions.

Track website visitors and behavior using Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.

## Prerequisites

* **Paid subscription** (not available on free plan)
* A Google Analytics and/or Google Tag Manager account

## How to access

Navigate to **Dashboard → \[Your Website] → Analytics**.

## Set up Google Analytics

### Step 1: Get your Analytics ID

1. Go to [Google Analytics](https://analytics.google.com)
2. Create an account/property for your website
3. Copy your Measurement ID (format: `G-XXXXXXXXXX`)

### Step 2: Add the ID in Butternut

1. Expand **Google Analytics**
2. Paste the ID into **Google Analytics Id**
3. Click **Update**

Supported formats:

* GA4: `G-XXXXXXXXXX`
* Universal Analytics: `UA-XXXXXXXXX-X`

### Step 3: Verify installation

1. Open Google Analytics → **Realtime**
2. Visit your website in another tab
3. You should appear as an active user

## Set up Google Tag Manager

### Step 1: Get your GTM container ID

1. Go to [Google Tag Manager](https://tagmanager.google.com)
2. Create an account/container
3. Copy the Container ID (format: `GTM-XXXXXXX`)

### Step 2: Add the ID in Butternut

1. Expand **Google Tag Manager**
2. Paste the ID into **Google Tag Manager Id**
3. Click **Update**

### Step 3: Configure tags in GTM

In Google Tag Manager, add and publish tags for:

* Google Analytics
* Google Ads
* Meta/Facebook Pixel
* Any other tracking tools you use

## Completion status

The dashboard may show completion counters like:

* Google Analytics: `1/1 completed` when configured
* Google Tag Manager: `1/1 completed` when configured

## Troubleshooting

### Not seeing data in Google Analytics

* Wait up to 24–48 hours for processed reports (Realtime should be immediate).
* Confirm the ID is correct (no spaces).
* Ensure your website is published/live.

### “Website not live yet”

Some dashboards prompt you to subscribe/publish before analytics will collect reliably.
